ARTILLERY – Gold Coast, Australia 4th February 2020
Entering Vinnies Dive on Tuesday night, you got an immediate sense of where you were and what you’re in for. The poster plastered dive, crowded with patched-vest wearing patrons and the music deafened your entire being, the place just spewed metal!
Bloodline of the Lannisters kicked off this epic lineup and set the pace for a night of crushing core. Their hard hitting and abrasive sounding songs, blasted through the venue and kept the energy explosive, setting the scene for the nights events.
Next Level H took the stage, punching waves of screams and sound through the crowd with brute force. Their energy and aggression resonating through the pit and keeping the the brutal vibe alive.
Round 3 had us throwing our heads with Puncture Wound, a band fuelled by sinister passions and making music to meet the darkness that dwells in all of us. Their bold roars and deep riffs melting faces as they threw down their best, including the successfully released ‘Necroinsamination’, ‘Indiscriminate Slaughter’ and ‘Gorruption’. This bands performance was true to the genre and well received by the audience, aptly setting the way for ‘Artillery’ as part of their ‘The Face Of Fear’ Australian tour.
As one of Europe’s earliest icons of thrash metal, the Danish quartet Artillery live up to their reputation. They hit the stage ready to attack with an arsenal of dynamic melodies, bone crushing vocals and an insanely technical guitar speed that would have your brain implode. The crowd instantly became a sea of headbanging and horns, as the band delivered a show that I can only describe as an assault on all senses.
Artillery has been crushing the stage since 1982 and we still haven’t seen any lull in their quality, powerful performance or unique and complex song construction. The new album, ‘The Face Of Fear’ picks up where ‘ Penalty By Perception’ left off, true to classic Euro thrash with all their traditional chunk. This reviewer would highly recommend seeing these guys in their element, and we wish them all the best for the rest of the tour.
