ABOVE, BELOW unleash debut album and announce album launch show

UNLEASH ‘THE LOTUS CHAPTERS’ + ANNOUNCE ALBUM LAUNCH SHOW

The day has arrived! Sydney’s Above, Below are finally unleashing their debut album ‘The Lotus Chapters‘, a concept album that has taken a few years to perfect but is now ready to be shared with the world. In addition to this, the band have also announced that they will be launching this monster album live at a hometown show October 25!

Leading the way for ‘The Lotus Chapters’ were singles “Beyond The Mosaic Lake“, “Labyrinth” and “Blood Wine“, which teased listeners with a taste of brutal heavy segments against intricate, soaring highs that rounded out each musical masterpiece, providing something for everyone. Each track has made its debut on both triple j programs Short. Fast. Loud and The Racket, have received media love worldwide and have had adds to RAGE. Above, Below currently have five tracks respectively making the rounds in Spotify editoral playlists Got Djent, Deathcore and Homegrown + Heavy, which is home to over 300,000 followers collectively.

A seamlessly composed concept album recorded, mixed and mastered by Nicholas Page at STL Studios (Tapestry, The Beautiful Monument, In Hearts Wake) , the body of work weaves through the various stages of life guided by the extended metaphor of a lotus flower beginning as a seed, flourishing and eventually blooming. Throughout the 12 tracks the ideas of growth, learning, maturity, darkness, light, harmony and acceptance are navigated and contemplated to form an overarching image of what it means to be human and what it is to exist.

The band has received love nationwide for their much anticipated debut LP.

Mitch Alexander at Triple J’s The Racket on “Labyrinth”

Labyrinth is Above, Below really taking a risk, but having it pay off nicely, with the band still finding time to get on their heavy and djent moments; like the blast beats kicking off at 3:26 or like that huge breakdown in the mid-section. This is a real step up and it caught me well-off guard.

The track itself is a spasmodic monster, veering from pummelling scream-smattered riffage to soaring melodic passages
Emmy Mack at Music Feeds on “Blood Wine”

Above all, this is a mammoth effort, and clearly a labour of love. The self-professed ‘music nerds’ have incorporated everything they know and love, and most impressively, tied it into a chronological concept … musically, Above, Below have put together a full-bodied journey that showcases everything from blast beats through to hymnal harmonies.
Kel Burch at Depth Magazine

“Ultimately, The Lotus Chapters is a significant and enthralling release that threatens to become one of the most notable heavy releases so far for 2019, and it’s truly exciting to see a band so convincingly blossom on a debut full-length.”
Tiana Speter at The Soundcheck

Above, Below were a new band to me going in, but in this single release I have more than enough reason to remember them in the future.
FlightOfIcarus at Metal Trenches

Above, Below will play Sydney’s The Burdekin Hotel on Friday October 25 to flaunt their latest creation with support from Melbourne’s To Octavia and local talent in The Wandering, Artisan and Elision.
