SCENE AND HEARD FESTIVAL – Brisbane, Australia 2nd November 2019

Concert goers of all types flowed to Eatons Hill Hotel in Brisbane on Saturday (2nd November) for the ‘Scene and Heard’ Festival. Armed with an interesting line up of artists, a great venue and a buzzing atmosphere, the festival was kicked into gear!

First to set foot on the main stage and open the event was Australian indie band ‘Even’, with a very consistent 90s style nostalgic Brit-pop sound and easy-going presence. A nice gig to start the show and easy on the brain, 25 years on they’re still going strong.

Followed by the homegrown Brissy boys, ‘Butterfingers‘ who excited the crowd with their intoxicating hiphop/alternative rock style. The band pumped out song after song, while the crowd shouted the songs retaliations and bursting with enthusiam. The bands interaction with the crowd was incredible and its safe to say they had everyone there wrapped around their butter fingers.

As the 3rd set rolled around, it was Perth rockers ‘Gyroscope’s time to hit the stage and immediately the energy in the room was turned up to eleven. With a powerful hard-hitting sound and a super lively performance, it was honestly one of the highlights of my festival experience. From jumping around the stage and climbing the guard rails to throwing the guitar behind their head and even a awesome sing-along to a version of Midnight Oil’s ‘Beds are Burning, the entire assembly was undeniably entertained.

As the festival moved forward it was indie rock ‘British India‘s time to shine. The Melbourne four piece jammed out all their best loved tunes and put on a spirited performance that was definitely enjoyed by all. A fun show with eclectic taste, their sound was tight and super active and it was great to see live.

Next up, Scene and Heard served up Sydney born award-winning artist ‘Alex Lloyd‘. His charismatic presence, soulful vocals and talented band combined, made for a satisfying show as he pulled out all of the favorites, including the well know ‘Amazing’ and ‘Coming home’.

As day turned to night, the feel was shifted again as electro pop group ‘Sneaky Sound System‘ took over. With Connie Mitchell’s moves and grooves , a range of dance party lovers were amped up. The exhilarating lighting accompanied by the fellow ‘SSS’ Djs only enhanced the vibe as people swarmed the dance floor for ‘I love it.

The 7th act to grace the stage was American alternative rock band ‘The Dandy Warhols‘ and let’s just say they didn’t waste any time, cutting straight into the captivating classics we all know and love, including the iconic ‘We Used to be Friends’ and ‘Bohemian Like You’. The crowd easily reflected the bands energy and became a collective chorus thought the set.

Last but definitely not, least was a lively and mesmerizing performance by internationally renowned Aussie rock stars ‘Wolfmother‘. This not being my first encounter with the band, I can still say without a doubt, that these guys know how to dominate the stage and put on a great show. The electrifying and passionate performance did not disappoint and, as always, everyone enjoyed hits such as ‘Joker and the Thief’ and ‘Woman’. A perfect end to the live concert.

Finishing up the night all that’s left is the after party with dance music provided by ‘Potbelleez Dj’s , a bit of fun before all was done and dusted.

This was a very dynamic festival, attracting pop lovers and rockers alike, having something for everyone and bringing many different fish to swim in the same pond. All in all, it was a unique event with such diversity, of both genres and people, and honestly a good time. Thanks to the artists and all involved for an enjoyable experience!
